Hello Steve

Yes, I accept that I have taken the image from one of the published sites on the Internet, but probably not from the IBM website as I recall. This is during the early days of my blogging and I did not give acknowledgment to the publishers of the content. I was using the image to explain the content of the blog posts and the image used was the closest to what I wanted to share.

I apologize for my shortcoming.

Thank you

Hello Andrew

I thank you for your comment. Much of the things I wrote were based on my experience before ONTAP 7.3 and I realized that there are inaccuracies relative to the new ONTAP versions, in which I am in the midst of updating.

ONTAP is always evolving and changing and your comments and insights are helping me and my readers to learn.

Please visit storagegaga.com rather than this Wordpress blog and I appreciate more of your comments.

Thank you

Hi Chris

Thanks for your new updates about the AZCS. It certainly helps overcome the wastage and inconsistency of BCS on SATA drives.

But how is it different from the previous ZCS which also applied 1 block for every 63 blocks of data? How does AZCS work? Please share more details.

Thank you
/Chin-Fah

Hello Crioux

Dropbox is like old wine in new bottle. It feels new and it exciting to be in the "cloud". I put "cloud" within quotes because it means different things to different people.

But the push for services like Dropbox, Box.net and others is really about our human obsession being personal. The devices such as tablets, smartphones and laptops are proliferating and this is contributing to the BYOD movement within the privacy of the enterprise. People wants files on-the-go, on any devices, anytime, anywhere and hence the excitement of Dropbox continues to build.

Just my 2cents thoughts.

Thanks for reading my blog.

FYI, with Data ONTAP 8.1.1 NetApp introduced a new "Advanced Zone Checksum" style ("AZCS") for native 4KB formatted HDDs and for V-Series LUNs. From a capacity perspective it has a cost of of 1 - 63/64 or 1.56% of the HDD capacity vs. the previous BCS checksum style emulation on 512bps drives that was 1 - 8/9 = 11.1% of the HDD capacity. The 4KB native disks are of type MSATA found in the DS4486 shelf in 3TB and 4TB capacities and are shipping today.
